Proposal to Establish the UOIT Observatory on Sustainable Cities and Urban Communities (Associate Provost, Research)

The Research Board recommends:

that Academic Council recommend to the Board of Governors that UOIT establish an Observatory on Sustainable Cities and Urban Communities, as set out in Appendix A.

Background:

In accordance with the Procedures for the Establishment of Research Entities, UOIT's policies, Research Board has endorsed the proposal from the Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies for the creation of a research unit named the UOIT Observatory on Sustainable Cities and Urban Communities.

The Research Board reviewed this proposal at its November 22, 2006 meeting. It was approved subject to the following conditions:

  1. That the unit report to the Associate Provost, Research.
  2. That the Unit broaden its membership and that of its executive committee to match the broader vision implied in the name of the unit and in the "Building Our Future" document.
  3. That the Unit shall report back to Research Board in one year's on the progress made on item 2.

The above conditions have been incorporated into the revised proposal included in Appendix A.
